Olivier Guerrier is a Professor of French Literature and Language of the Renaissance at the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès, Honorary President of the Société Internationale des Amies et Amis de Montaigne, and a member of the Académie des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse.
He co-directs the Lettres et culture series for the Presses Universitaires du Midi, the Cahiers La Boétie, and the Série La Boétie within Études montaignistes, two collections published by Classiques Garnier.
He is the author of two books on Montaigne: « Quand les poètes feignent ». Fantaisie et fiction dans les Essais de Montaigne (Champion, 2002) and Rencontre et reconnaissance – Les Essais ou le jeu du hasard et de la vérité (Classiques Garnier, 2016). His research interests also encompass La Boétie, Rabelais, and 16th-century French literary prose, as well as the European reception of Plutarch’s work—the subject of his Junior Chair (2006–2011) at the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF). This work notably resulted in the publication of Visages singuliers du Plutarque humaniste – Autour d’Amyot et de la réception des Moralia et des Vies à la Renaissance (Les Belles Lettres, 2023; recipient of the 2024 Monseigneur Marcel Prize from the Académie française). Furthermore, as part of his Senior Fellowship at the IUF (2023–2028), he is exploring the concept of "recognition" (reconnaissance) in French literature, focusing on both poetics and reception.
